How to Use Grenades in Apex Legends Like a Predator

Thermites, arc stars and frags decide more ranked fights than your aim does. Here is the throwable discipline that separates Diamond from Predator.

You are carrying a full stack of thermites and still dying at the ring edge. That is not a loot problem. Most Diamond players treat throwables as leftover inventory space, and Predators treat them as the opening move of every fight. Learning how to use grenades in Apex Legends is the fastest utility upgrade available to you.

How to Use Grenades in Apex Legends During Rotations

Your rotation is where throwables earn the most and get used the least. The squad sitting on the high ground along your path has one weakness, and it is the moment they commit to a peek. Thermite the ledge they are anchored on before anyone leaves cover, and their angle stops being a free angle.

Grenades buy you ground. One arc star on a doorway forces a reposition, and that reposition is the window your squad crosses open terrain in. Throw first, move second. Never the reverse.

Cook Your Path Before You Cross It

Ping the rotation, then throw utility at the position you fear most before anyone breaks cover. If nothing answers, the angle was empty and you crossed for free. If a squad shifts, you learned where they are and it cost you one grenade.

Thermites Are Zone Denial, Not Damage

Stop measuring thermites by the damage ticker. Their real value is the ground they take away. A thermite on a downed teammate is the cleanest rez denial in the game, because the enemy has to choose between burning for the pickup or abandoning the body.

The same logic runs the ring edge. Drop one on the last strip of usable cover and the squad holding it has to move into your crosshair. You did not out shoot them. You deleted the option they were relying on.

Burn the Body, Not the Squad

When you knock a player in the open, put the thermite on the body instead of chasing the two still up. The rez window closes, the fight turns into a two versus three, and you never gave up your position to force it.

Arc Stars Punish Cover, Not Bodies

Arc stars are the most misthrown item in the loot pool because players aim them at people. Aim them at geometry instead. The wall a squad is hugging, the ceiling above a stairwell, the door frame they are about to rotate through. The stick does the work.

An arc star on a downed player also tags whoever comes for the rez. Read the cover first. The body is the bonus.

Frags Flush Buildings When the Ring Closes

Late ring fights collapse into buildings, and buildings are where frags stop being filler. A squad holding a two storey POI has one job: holding the doors. Two frags through a window take the job away, because the damage does not need to knock anyone. It needs to move them.

Every player who slides off a held angle hands your squad a free entry. Throw the frag into the room, hold the door for the panic, and let them walk into it.

Utility Calls Are an IGL Job

Throwable timing falls apart in solo queue because nobody owns the call. GG Clan's Apex IGLs run utility as a squad resource and tell you which grenade goes where and when the fight opens. One live lobby rewires how your team spends utility for good.

What Throwables Actually Do in the Apex Loot Pool

Three throwables sit in the loot pool and they solve three different problems. Frag grenades deal area damage on a fuse timer and can be cooked before the throw. Arc stars stick to surfaces and players, then detonate with an arc that slows and damages anything close. Thermites lay a burning patch that denies ground for several seconds.

Every legend carries them, and the skill ceiling on all three sits above your aim ceiling.

Third Party Timing Starts With a Throwable

Third parties are won before you enter. The squads already fighting are low on health and plates, and the thing that finishes them faster than a push is utility landing while they reload.

Thermite the fight from outside, then enter through the side nobody is watching. You are not adding a third gun to a two squad brawl. You are removing the cover both squads relied on.

Throw From Outside the Fight

Before you commit to a third party, spend two grenades from outside audio range. Damage numbers are secondary. You want both squads repositioning at once, which turns a coordinated fight into two panicked ones you enter on your terms.
